week 4: many loose ends
product vs. marketing

Dear board, first of all - thanks for making the time.
Right now I’m in a limbo between focusing on the product vs focusing on marketing. Both are necessary, and marketing is becoming increasingly important.
Progress and reflections on ads
Since last time, we’ve been running ads on both Meta and X, which quickly reminded me that for ads to be effective, we need a better system.
I’m optimistic, and I thought we could start testing for $20 a day, and with some creatives I’ve made - but then reality hit.
We need better systems in place first. Especially for content creation.
Ads can’t be rushed.
To be honest, we weren’t ready to run ads - and our testing gave us that learning, which is great. It made it very clear what we need to do, to be ready.
Product updates
Version 1.0 is live, but we gonna push a better version of v.1 before turning our full attention to 2.0 since there are still some improvements that we want to make.
We are getting great feedback, and our users continue to open the email - while our unsubscribe rate is still below 1%. Version 1 is just our MVP, so the early positive feedback is very promising.
But I’m excited for version 2. It’s gonna take Jared to a new level while implementing a lot of the feedback we have received from users over the past weeks.
Content quality
I touched on article fetching last time, and we’ve had some issues. Frederik had a breakthrough today, and we should be able to fetch 2x-3x as many articles by tomorrow or maybe Tuesday.
Looking forward to that, since it will be a major improvement.
We have pushed a new improvement to the newsletter, this weekend. The main points of the article are now summarized in three bullet points.
